Today was a long day. I picked up Amber and we had our sister bonding day by watching Easy A and going to the candy store for Jon’s birthday present. On the way home I almost ran over a cat. Then I went shopping, I hit 3 stores in 45 minutes and bought a couple things. Bible study afterwards with Kim and Tracey. Tracey thought I was crying, when really my nose was runny due to the perfect positioning of the ceiling fan.  When I got home it was a little pass 8 and I headed to Jon’s party where I was asked to rap on the spot, but I didn’t. I saw many familiar faces and we jammed to Disney Songs- and now I have a jamming partner, yay Ronquillo! Plus I have an amazing friend that I like taking care of anytime they need me. All in all, today was amazing. thank you God [:

I work for a middle school’s after school program. I see over a hundred kids run around me while I try to sit them down. But yesterday, two kids caught my eye. A boy and girl in the 6th grade. Apparently, they just became boyfriend and girlfriend a few days ago. I never seen them talking or engaging with each other until yesterday. At the beginning of the program, they sat next to each while doing homework. After the little girl finished her homework, she decided to go on the computer. Of course, the boy was not far behind and followed her by sitting in the next computer 5 minutes later. I could hear them talking, but only in a soft voices. Trying to be somewhat intimate with each other in a classroom full of kids. I hear them laughing and giggling over who knows what, but their smiles were so genuine. I could tell that they really liked each other. Later on in the day, they were sitting next to each other in the game room. Some other boys were messing with the girl. She was tough though. She knew how to handle herself by telling the kids to back off or she would slap them. But the boyfriend, poor guy, was trying the talk to the other boys to leave her alone calmly, but she just went all off. From then on, he just put his arm around her chair and stayed quiet. Which is totally funny because he is usually a hyper and really talkative.

Kids change around the people they like. They can become super annoying to get attention. They can become sweet to win the others hearts. They can become shy and timid trying to not to get in their way. It’s interesting to watch all of these kids love lives unravel before my eyes.

Now, still on the topic of puppy love, yesterday I found out my youngest sister got asked out to homecoming by her new boyfriend. This guy went all out. He got the sax section. He got the “She Was Mine” song by AJ Rafeal. He got the white button up shirt and black tie. He got the rose. He got the poster with lyrics and hearts on it. I saw a video of it and it was romantic and cheesy. In a good way of course. The greatest/funniest part was Cassey’s reaction. She was shocked and just fell into his arms. And then later at home, she couldn’t stop talking about it. She was literally beaming. Smiling from ear to ear. It was pretty cute.

These stories of puppy love… it just remind me that the elements that make puppy love so special should be molded into actual lifelong love relationship. Kids change when they are around the people they like. Now, as adults, I’m not saying you have to change. I’m saying we are going to change. People grow up. But when you are in real relationship, you must be willing to change together. And change for the better of not only the relationship, but more importantly, for yourself. Because if you’re are only changing your ways for only the significant other, you are losing a part of yourself. Life throws you devastating blows, but if if you willing to face them and change to handle the situation together, it won’t hurt as much.

And the silly little romantic moments should never get old. Having huge cheesy smiles on your face should never get old. Relationships should have surprises and adventures and romance and creativity and laughing and happiness.

Lastly, puppy love gives you this little feeling. A little warmth in your heart whenever you see them, talk about them, hear about them. This small fire should never go out because that is what is going to keep you warm whenever your relationship gets a little cold.

I know I am no expert. But just hearing these stories and watching silly little sparks of love teach me about new elements about how to love and I guess I wanted to share them with you too. One last thought, don’t be afraid to get that person you can have these feelings or do these actions for. Love is worth it. And it all begins with puppy love, even if that little love grows gradually or comes at you fast.

Sometimes my sister can actually right some pretty neat stuff. Too cute. The bold part is my favorite! :)
